Haiti was the richest colony but also the harshest. Haiti exported almost 40 percent of sugar and 60 percent of coffee to Europe (The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation). the french only use them for to make money. 800,000 africans were taken to Haiti as slave to work. their  treatment was very cruel. One slave explained, "Have they not hung up men with heads downward, drowned them in sacks, crucified them on planks, buried them alive, crushed them in mortars"(henley) this shows that their were treated very horrible .

African culture has influenced Haiti due to slavery . As a result,  a language called creole was created by combining french and  African languages. another culture in Haiti is voodoo which still exist today and voodoo is like your calling out to the devil. voodoo
